The Waldbühne is a woodland amphitheatre in Berlin's Olympiapark, built between 1934 and 1936 to a design by Werner March that emulates the ancient Greek theatre of Epidauros. Its rows of seats climb the natural slope away from the stage, an arrangement that shapes the venue's celebrated acoustics and views. The capacity is 22,290, of which 19,640 are regular seats and about 2,650 standing places in the interior.

Since the Second World War the Waldbühne has hosted everything from boxing matches and open-air cinema to rock concerts and the Berlin Philharmonic's traditional summer evenings, making it one of the city's best-loved open-air stages.

Getting there

Take the S3 or S9 to Pichelsberg S-Bahn station, from where it is about a ten-minute walk to the amphitheatre in the Westend district. The venue is signposted from the station, and crowds flow out on foot after evening shows.
