OLYMPIAPARK · BERLIN
A Greek Theatre in the Pine Woods
Designed by Werner March in 1934–36 for the 1936 Berlin Olympics, the Waldbühne is modelled on the ancient Greek theatre of Epidauros — rows rising steeply through pine woods into a 22,290-seat natural bowl. After hosting Olympic boxing, the amphitheatre became one of Europe's most prestigious open-air concert venues, with the Berlin Philharmonic's televised summer concert as its annual highlight since 1984.
The 2026 season features Berlin Philharmonic, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Pet Shop Boys and a Yo-Yo Ma & Daniel Barenboim classical summit.
Reach the amphitheatre via S-Bahn S3/S9 to Pichelsberg (~10 min on foot) or U-Bahn U2 to Olympia-Stadion.
