La Traviata is an opera in three acts composed by Giuseppe Verdi and supported by the book in Italian by Francesco Maria Piave. It is inspired by La Dame aux camélias (1852), adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas. It was performed for the first time at the famous Teatro La Fenice in Venice, on 1853. In origin, the name of the opera was going to be Violetta and not La Traviata, in reference to the main character of the show. It is one of the most popular operas, and one of the most performed ones.
The main character of La Traviata is Violetta Valery and the story takes place during a magnificent party at her house in Paris to celebrate her recovery from an illness. A count called Gaston attends the party together with the noble Alfredo Germont, who had wished to meet Violetta for a long time.
