Notre Dame de Paris is a cover of a French musical that premiered in Paris on September 16, 1998. It is adapted from the novel “Notre Dame de Paris” (“Notre Dame de Paris”) by the French writer Victor Hugo. The music was composed by Riccardo Cocciante (aka Richard Cocciante), and the lyrics were written by Luc Plamondon.

Since the premiere, eight professional performances and translations have been performed in Belgium, Canada, China, France, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK and the US . Languages (English, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Korean, Flemish, Polish and Kazakh). A shorter English version ran in Las Vegas, Nevada (USA) in 2000, while the full-length version in London also ran in English for 17 months. Several songs from the show, such as “Vivre”, “Belle” and “Le temps des cathédrales”, were released as singles in French-speaking countries with great success.

According to Guinness World Records, Notre Dame’s first year was the most successful year in musical theater history. To date (2007), the score has been recorded at least seven times: the original French concept album starring Israeli singer Achinoam Nini (aka Noa) as Esmeralda followed by a full live recording by the original Parisian cast. A complete recording of the score was made in Italian, as well as a single CD of the Spanish compilation made in Barcelona. The original London cast album featured several of the original Paris stars, but only kept a small part of the English soundtrack.
