Kiss (commonly known as KIϟϟ) is an American rock band founded in New York in January 1973 by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss and Ace Frehley. The group is famous for its members’ face painting and stage costumes. In the mid to late 1970s, it became famous for its exquisite live performances, including fire breathing, vomiting blood, smoking guitar, shooting rockets, floating drum kits, and fireworks. The band has undergone several lineup changes, and Stanley and Simmons are the only members in each lineup. The original and most famous lineup includes Stanley (vocal and rhythm guitar), Simmons (vocal and bass), Frehley (main guitar and vocals) and Criss (drums and vocals).
Band members use their own makeup and costumes to act as comic-style characters: “Star Boy” (Stanley), “Devil” (Simmons), “Spaceman” or “Space Ace (Freley)” and “Catman “(Chris). Due to creative differences, Criss and Frehley left the team in 1982.
In 1983, Kiss began to perform without makeup and costumes, marking the beginning of the band’s decade-long “uncovered” era. The band experienced a commercial renaissance in this era. The platinum-certified album Lick It Up successfully introduced them to a new generation of fans, and their music videos were regularly broadcast on MTV. Eric Carr replaced Criss in 1980 and died of a heart attack in 1991 and was replaced by Eric Singer. In response to the Kiss nostalgia trend in the mid-1990s, the original product lineup was regrouped in 1996, and its makeup and stage costumes were also restored.
The final “alive/global tour” was very successful, with $143.7 million in revenue, making it the band’s most successful tour so far. Criss and Frehley then left the band again and were replaced by Singer and Tommy Thayer. The band continued to maintain its original stage makeup, while Singer and Thayer used original Catman and Spaceman makeup respectively. In September 2018, Kiss announced that after 45 years of recording and performance, it will continue its ongoing final tour, “The End of the Road World Tour”, which began in January 2019 and is currently scheduled to Ends in October 2021.
Kiss is considered to be one of the most influential bands of all time. Kiss is also one of the best-selling bands of all time. It has sold more than 75 million records worldwide, including 21 RIAA certified albums. Kiss also won 30 gold records, thus winning the first ever American Golden Record Award. Kiss has 14 platinum albums, three of which are platinum albums. On April 10, 2014, the four original members of “Kiss” were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Kiss was voted the ninth place in the “Greatest Metal Band of All Time” by MTV, and was ranked tenth in VH1’s “Hard Rock 100 Greatest Artists” list, and was named The third “Best Metal Band”. “Hard Rock Live Band of All Time” written by Loudwire magazine.
